Which Do I Need?

Full dentures (‘plates’) are used when all of the teeth in your jaw are missing or need to be extracted. When possible, we make it a point to preserve any natural teeth when we can. Instead of removing those teeth, a partial denture can be created to snap into place around them, only replacing the teeth that are missing.

Daily Denture Maintenance

Dentures rely on a snug fit to feel comfortable and work efficiently. To ensure your underlying bone and gums are stable, you need to remove your denture or partial each night before going to bed. Store it in a container of water or an effervescent denture cleanser. Clean your mouth with a soft cloth before going to sleep. The next morning, brush your denture and rinse it well before placing it back into your mouth.

Over time most dentures need to be adjusted or re-lined. Be sure to bring your prosthesis in during your regular checkups to have it evaluated. If you feel any sore spots, discomfort or slipping, let us know.

Adjusting to a New Denture

Wearing a new denture usually takes a few days of practice. Be patient and give yourself plenty of grace. Practice speaking in the mirror and eating different textures of foods before venturing out for a night on the town with friends. With time, you’ll be back to your new routine.
